August is the month of getting a sense of wonder by observing the drops of water connecting sky and earth. It's the time when children enjoy rains and observe the changing patterns of clouds. It’s that time when their vivid imagination allows them to identify shapes formed by the clouds. The monsoon season began taking over the nation, with the sweet smell of wet earth and running water droplets on plants. Which would be a better season than the monsoons to explore the theme-Plants? Students explored the importance of plants and learnt how useful they are for all of us. They were also introduced to the concept of life below water which sensitised them to understand how important water is for aquatic animals, too.The educators and children connected together throughout the month and pledged to preserve our environment. The universal value of the month “I am respectful” was explored through various stories and activities. This enhanced the emotional outlook of children and helped them to emerge as better humans. Quality Circle Time (QCT) The Magnificent Mornings were brought in with a lot of positive thoughts to give children an optimistic view of life. Mingle Monday allowed the students to shed their shells and taught them how to bond with their peers. Terrific Tuesday was a day to discuss the monthly theme and explore the immense aspects of environment. Wow Wednesday brought a surprise element for the children teaching them how to hold on to their excitement. Tango Thursday- Let's dance! Every one wore their dancing shoes and danced to their favourite beats. Fantastic Friday was the Early Primary Assembly Day, wherein the studentsof different sections conducted the assemblies thereby celebrating special days and events. INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION AT SCHOOL Suncity School 37D celebrated India's 75th Independence Day with unprecedented patriotic fervour. The gamut of celebration started with our Principal Ms.Guneet Ohri hoisting the Tricolour on campus along with all the staff members with the national anthem echoing in the ramparts of the school campus. The Independence Day Special Assembly was very well coordinated and conducted by our confident and enthusiastic VI graders. It was a moment of great pride for the newly elected council members for whom their parents had the honour of pinning their prefect badges. The toppers of last year’s Olympiads, academic scholarship holders and winning houses were also felicitated for their excellent performances in the virtual presence of Maj. Gen. Kulpreet Singh (Retd), the Chief Guest for the occasion. Gen Kulpreet congratulated the students and encouraged them to take on the mantle of leadership seriously. "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country” is what he quoted to motivate the council members. He also spoke about his fellow soldiers who sacrificed their lives for our country. He appreciated the Principal’s leadership under whose guidance the school is emerging to be one of the best in Gurgaon. Our talented students paid homage to the martyrs through their impeccable song and dance performances. The event concluded with the Inter-House Patriotic Song competition which was assessed by the eminent judges Mr.Vikul Sharma and Ms.Riya Maity Sinha. The mellifluous performances by the students were highly appreciated by the judges. Principal, Ms Guneet Ohri, addressed the gathering by congratulating all students, staff and parents for enthusiastically uniting to celebrate and honour the nation despite the current tough and troubling times. SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES School assemblies are an essential component for learning and evolution of any child. Assemblies not only inculcate a sense of school unity but also encourage expression and boost confidence. Regular assemblies aid the development of proper habits and an attitude of being a part of the audience; for performers as well as audience are equally imperative to a wholesome aesthetic experience. In the month of August, grades I-A, I-B and I-C presented their class assemblies. It was the first time for the little ones to perform live. Grade I-A displayed patriotic fervour with their special assembly on Independence Day and remembered many of our freedom fighters. Grade I-B filled the audience with the joy of sibling relationship with their special assembly on Raksha Bandhan. Grade I-C celebrated the birth of Krishna and the highlight of their special assembly for Janamashtami was the ‘Dahi Handi’. All the children performed their best and we value the cooperation of parents in making all the assemblies a success. WEBINAR Suncity (Student) Webinar Committee organised an interactive session for parents and educators on ‘Positive Parenting’ on 28th August 2021. It was the first of its kind, spearheaded by the students of Grade IX and moderated by the Principal Ms. Guneet Ohri. The session focussed on topics relevant to the current times—nutrition and eye care, and social wellbeing during online schooling. Dr. (Maj) Manish Mannan and Dr. Rishi Bhardwaj of Paras Hospital were the speakers. Dr. Bhardwaj advised the implementation of the 20-20 rule, 20 seconds eye closure for 20 minutes of screen exposure, and gave other important tips. Dr. Mannan emphasised the importance of believing in science driven data and the need to return to the campus for social and emotional growth of children. He debunked many common misconceptions as well. Both the speakers answered and clarified parent as well student queries. https://youtu.be/cXb5OK0eEHI Language and Performing Arts Subject Integration Week "What we want is to see the child in pursuit of knowledge, and not knowledge in pursuit of the child". George Bernard Shaw One way of discovering the curriculum with the children is integrating it across the board with other subjects and to do that we organized a Subject Integration Week in school during the week of 9th August to 13th August. We integrated Language with Performing Arts through an array of activities. Integrated study brought together diverse disciplines in a comprehensive manner, enabling students to develop a meaningful understanding of the complex associations and influences within a topic. ‘Envirophilia-A Fancy Dress Party’ was organized for Grade I students. The little learners looked super excited as they came dressed on the theme of Plants and Aquatic Animals and spoke about the ‘Plant or Animal’ that they played the role of, using their drama skills. They also carried props to convey their message. They explored the importance of SDG 14- ‘Life below Water’ and SDG 15- ‘Life on Land’ and made other students aware about them through their presentations. ‘The Edible Tales- Story on my Plate’ turned out to be a successful venture for Grade II students as they narrated their yummy-licious stories with the help of creatively crafted fruit and vegetable salad using their vivid imagination and creative skills. This approach further developed the children’s ability to transfer their learning to other settings and correlate their sub-conscious selves to conscious selves. The class was divided into Performers group and Audience group for these activities. The audience judged their peers’ performance on a Peer Assessment Rubric. This was only possible because they were able to closely relate to real-world linguistic connections in an integrated curriculum approach. We were amazed by the meticulous efforts shown by the students. It was altogether an amazing week and we loved every bit of it. ENGLISH In the month of August, Grade1 children gained confidence and became supportive learners using the four language skills seamlessly. They were able to recognize the ‘Action Words’ and their usage in meaningful sentences. Students learnt to identify commonly used digraphs in -ch, -sh, and -th words. This helped the students read the text fluently. They enjoyed playing a spat game on ‘Dolch Words’ by guessing the right options. A virtual tour to the botanical garden engaged the students by allowing them to enjoy the soothing sights, learning about conservation and getting introduced to a variety of plant species. The topic of plants integrated well with EVS and included the monthly theme-PLANTS. The students had a great learning experience and they continue to learn and grow each day.
