AssemblyThe young Suncitizens of Gurade I-C, conducted their class assembly on the occasion of ‘Muharram’ on 5th August. Students were made aware of the significance of the day of Muharram by highlighting the rituals followed by Muslims. The assembly concluded with a soulful Sufi performance by the children and observance of a few moments of silence in respect to the mourning occasion. The students of Grade 1D conducted their class assembly on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami.. The Krishna Janmashtami festival marks the birth of Krishna, one of the most popular deities worshipped by Hindus. The students praised their friends with the significance of the festival through beautiful enactment of the birth of Lord Krishna. The event concluded with melodious Bhajan, a mesmerising dance performance by the students on the song, followed by Dahi Handi and the National Anthem. ''Kindness is the language which the dumb can speak, the deaf can hear and the blind can see.'' - Mark Twain Students of class 1 E presented a beautiful assembly on 26th August on the topic ‘Compassion’. The assembly comprised of kindness acts which shows the feeling of compassion. It showcased the talent of the children and effectively conveyed the message that kindness is an act of compassion, love, concern and sympathy. Being kind to others instils a positive feeling and makes this world a better place to live. The kindness acts were followed by a pledge where children took the pledge to be kind to everyone. Independence Day CelebrationsSuncity School 37D celebrated India’s 75th Independence Day with immense respect and strong patriotic feelings. The Suncitizens extended a warm welcome to the Honourable Chief Guest, the Director General of Haryana Institute of Public Administration, Red. DGP Ranjiv Singh Dalal. Members of the Management at Suncity School 37D also graced the occasion. The flag hoisting ceremony set the tune for the rest of the program. The cultural program commenced with a wonderful rendition of the song Vande Mataram by the school choir. It was followed by a splendid dance performance. The students instilled the importance of self-defence and showcased their Judo skills which left the audience awestruck and inspired. This was followed by the glorification of India in the ancient language, Sanskrit. A grand and graceful fusion dance performance on the song 'Aye mere Watan ke logon' struck a strong emotional chord among the audience.The program culminated with the address and motivating words of the Chief Guest, which enthused and enlightened the students. The Principal in her address urged the students to instill discipline in themselves in order to be successful. Budding author Arshya Prinjal and artists Navya Shankar and Triman Kaur Mullay, all 7th graders, presented their respective works to the Chief Guest. Grade IX and X students, in their endeavour to honour and recognize the work and importance of the entire school support staff, initiated SEWA and served refreshments to them. They were also given a tricolor each to hoist in their houses in order to spread the message Har Ghar Tiranga. Mathematics Students learnt to add the numbers with carryover by using place value blocks. They also learnt to solve the story sums in their Mathematics lessons. The concept of 'Subtraction' was introduced as a take away process by using classroom objects. They were introduced to ‘Subtraction terms’ by using vocabulary cards. Subtraction was taught using two methods; by using number lines and by counting backward to find the difference between the two numbers. Students also enjoyed building on their logical and analytical skills by working on the SEP module. EVSThe month of September commenced with the learning about different types of birds- 'Flying and Flightless birds with the help of a video demonstration and notebook work. Our little learners were introduced to different types of insects through the topic 'The world of Animals'. The children attempted an interactive worksheet in order to consolidate their learning. A new topic 'The World of Plants' was introduced where students were made aware of the different types of plants like trees, shrubs, herbs, climbers and creepers. Discussion about parts of plants also took place and the functions of the different parts of plants were explained with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. The little enthusiasts were too excited to know about how a plant grows. The process of 'Germination' was introduced with the help of video demonstration and a hands on experiment on 'Seed Germination'. The topic was continued and students learnt a lot about the uses of plants in their daily lives. The month of August brings with it the spirit of patriotic fervour as it is all about talking to our children and instilling in them a deep love for our country. Many activities were planned to celebrate the Independence Day, which developed a sense of pride, love, respect, and loyalty towards our nation. August also marks the arrival of the festive season and children learnt the importance of Muharram, Raksha Bandhan and Janmashtami. Our rich cultural heritage inspires us to live in peace and harmony, rejoicing and celebrating all festivals with equal zeal. Literature Monthly theme of August was 'Plants' and in correspond with the same children completed Unit-4 ‘Growing Beans’ with a focus on glossary and writing skills. Introduction of the chapter was done by poem recitation and through linking the topic to the students' prior knowledge. Children drew ‘My Garden’ in their notebook, depicting how beautiful and colourful it can be. Video demonstration on parts of plant was done. An interesting 'Jigsaw Puzzle' game was organized where children had to rearrange the whole plant in the correct order. Amazing words from the chapter was done in the notebook. Chapter end exercises were done in an interactive manner where children and teacher brainstormed together and discovered the correct answers. Grammar Doing words were introduced to the students through 'Spin a Wheel Activity'. They were thrilled to spin the wheel and couldn't wait for their turns. Students gave an interesting twist to the game 'Dumb Charades' where they enacted the doing words while their peers had to guess the word. To enhance students’ knowledge and to consolidate their learning, notebook work was done. Blend ‘nd’ and ‘ng’ was explained to the students through a 'Mind Map'. But it's also great for mental and emotional health. Dance brings people together and provides them with a sense of community with people that have the same interests and passion. Students learnt Ganesh Vandana choreography in semi-classical style on 'deva shree ganesha' song.Through the dance they learnt various mudras like -- Pataak, ardh-chandra and expressed emotions through shringar ras and veer ras. Western Dance"When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor; it's to enjoy each step along the way." The session began with a new dance style- Freestyle on a Krishna song imbibing the spirit of love and devotion. We used freestyle body movements along with hand gestures and rhythmic foot movements to create a new choreography. They were also taught the basic levels of the body like polio and relieve. It is a good exercise for mind and body coordination, it also improves the body posture. DramaVarious team building games and exercises like: Who is the leader?, Space Walk! Students worked on various emotions and expressions by portraying animal characters like: Lion, Rabbit, Frog, Tortoise, etc. Mirroring Activities where students follow the teacher in various actions & postures were conducted. Body Sculpting - An activity in which students are divided into teams of two where one becomes the sculptor while the other becomes a model and they make things (living/non living) and then their roles are switched. ArtThe students were introduced to Independence Day drawing in which they were shown pictures of symbols representing the nation. Students were encouraged to draw the National Flag. They learnt the symbolic colours of our country‘s flag and practiced merging and proper filling with oil pastels. Learners also learnt to draw a Rainy Day drawing and Lord Ganesha on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi in which they understood the curves used at different places in drawing. The students came up with beautiful colour scheme themselves.
