MATHEMATICSThis month the students continued with their learning of 'Subtraction' with the vertical method. They were introduced to word problems by story telling. Later on, they solved word problems. Students were assessed for Mental Math (Numbers up to 100 ) through a class oral quiz. They also attempted an assessment on 'Addition'. They learnt about multiplication through a class activity using playdough to understand the concept of 'Multiplication' as repeated addition. They used the class resources to learn this concept. The common properties of multiplication were discussed, where the product remains same irrespective of the numbers changing their' order. Repeated Addition' concept was taught to memorize multiplication facts and to form multiplication equation using the method. EVSThe month of September started with the commencement of students’ learning journey on the topic- 'Plants'. The subtopic 'Germination' was explained with the help of a planting activity in the class where our little enthusiasts were extremely happy to see their seeds growing into small plants. The students were briefed about the SDG-;15 'Life on Land' where they learnt about how to protect plants by not wasting paper and planting more trees. The students were taken for a 'Nature Walk' where they saw different types of plants and many vegetables like Brinjal, Chilli, Lemon in our school kitchen garden. The revision of the theme plants was done through an activity 'Pick your Chit' wherein the students picked up the chits and spoke about different types of plants, their parts and uses. The concept initiation of the topic 'FOOD' was done with a discussion on importance of food and the sources of food. Students were briefed about different types of food like- Energy giving food, protective food, muscle building food, milk & dairy products and fats & sugars. Students learnt about the balanced diet and its importance with the help of 'Food plate activity'. Taking the topic forward, the educator explained the difference between 'Junk and Healthy food' and students wrote about different healthy and junk food in their notebooks. 'Table Manners'- Do's and Don'ts were briefed to the class where they learnt about eating etiquettes and respecting the food. Different kitchen utensils used in the kitchen were discussed and a 'Visit to the Refectory' was done to showcase the different utensils used in the school kitchen. Fruit puppet was made as a part of Integration with Art where they were overjoyed to make figurines from the fruits they brought. The closure of the theme 'Food' was done by organizing a 'Tiffin Party' where students brought food in their tiffin's and shared the importance of the food type they were assigned to. They learnt the names of the different keys of the keyboard and started working on the Tux Typing Software. They also played a few games in the Tux Typing software. They enjoyed typing about themselves in the 'Wordpad'. As a concept closure, the students attempted the revision worksheet for the topics done. ENGLISHLiterature This month is a special month for the students and the teachers as we celebrated Teacher’s Day on 5th September. It marks the birth anniversary of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the second President of free India. Children made beautiful cards for their teachers to express their bond and affection. Students completed the Unit- 5 ‘I like…’ with focus on reading, comprehension and writing skills. The young learners were introduced to the chapter through 'Guided Writing' where they were asked to draw their favourite weather and write a few sentences about it. Group and loud reading was promoted to foster correct pronunciaton and diction in the children. 'Amazing words' were done in the notebook. Chapter end exercise was done in an interactive manner where children and teacher brainstormed together and discovered the correct answers. Handwriting practice was done in the notebook. ‘Spell Well’ sessions were taken to enhance the vocabulary of the class. Grammar Introduction of 'Gender' was done through a video demonstration followed by a notebook task. 'Antonyms' were introduced to children through an online game. Children highlighted opposite words from the story 'Cinderella' to demonstrate their understanding of the topic. Dolch words list 1I was done in the notebook. Children were made familiar to 'Adjectives/ Describing Words' with the help of live examples. Textbook exercise were done to reinforce the learning of the concepts. Agility exercises like modified zig-zag running with cones. WESTERN DANCE"When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a centain place on the floor; it's to enjoy each step along the way." The session began with a new dance style- Dandiya on 'Moti Veerana' song imbibing the spirit of love and devotion and giving them a basic importance and significance of Navaratri. We used freestyle body movements along with hand gestures and rhythmic foot movements to create a new choreography. They were also taught the basic levels of body like plie and releve. It is a good exercise for mind and body coordination, it also improves the body posture. INDIAN DANCEDurga Puja, also known as Durgotsava or Sharodotsava, is an annual Hindu festival originating in the Indian subcontinent which reveres and pays homage to the Hindu goddess Durga and is also celebrated because of Durga's victory over Mahishasur. Students learnt to dance to the tunes of Durga Stuti in classical dance style through various mudras, postures and various expressions on the song- Ya devi sarvabhuteshu. DRAMAStudents learnt how to coordinate and function as a cohesive group through the Random Alphabet exercise. They were also taught about characterisation and given the task of coming up with 5 characters with unique character traits and quirks. ARTStudents were introduced to the monthly theme 'Food' in Warli style and they were shown pictures of Warli figures cooking food. Students were encouraged to draw hut, borders, Warli figures, etc. They also learnt different shapes used in Warli Art and practiced pencil colours. They came up with beautiful colour scheme themselves.
