October month is loaded with celebrations and the time when we say goodbye to harsh summers and welcome breezy winters. A month where festivities and tradition bring smiles to all, we celebrate the initiative ‘Spreading Smiles’ by raising funds, which will be donated to the less privileged by our young empathetic suncitizens. The universal theme ‘I am Peace’ was explored by way of discussion and anecdotes during the Quality Circle Time with their class educators, understanding the value and importance of peace in our lives. It was further reiterated with the monthly theme of importance of ‘shelter’ in our lives. MATHEMATICSThe students were introduced to the concept of repeated addition by an ice tray activity where the students used grains to count and make the repeated addition of 2. This activity helped them understand the concept of repeated addition as multiplication and write the addition & multiplication statement for tables of 2 and 3. They had fun playing multiplication games and attempting Live worksheets. The students were introduced to the topic 'Shapes' with the help of various real life objects that were present around them. Then they identified various shapes and tried making them in their notebooks. ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIESThe month of October started with the children sharing their thoughts and feelings about the need for shelter. Our little learners learnt about different types of houses though a PowerPoint Presentation. The topic of Kuccha house and Pucca house continued and children learnt about the characteristics of the same. As part of English integration students enjoyed watching a video of the story ‘Three Little Pigs’ and the sturdiness of different types of houses. The little enthusiasts went on a virtual house tour where they were introduced to different rooms in a house and their purposes. The teachers also discussed the importance of clean house with a help of a video and a PowerPoint presentation. In addition, various safety measure that they should follow was discussed in class. Using Art as integration, the children enjoyed house making activity using coloured paper and stick/straws in their notebook. The topic of ‘Community Helpers’ was introduced with a video on how homes are built and who are the people involved. The various community helpers at school was shared by the children and the important roles they hold was discussed. They had fun while playing a quiz where they were divided into 2 teams and answered questions from the Brain Developer exercise from the text book. ENGLISHLiterature October draws out the festive mood in us and the excitement percolates in our daily action. In the lovely cheerful weather we welcomed our children back to the school and executed the hybrid classes with smooth transition. The understanding of the importance of the Elements of Story was depicted through different activities revolved around the Gingerbread Man Story, where the children learnt the concept of problem, character, setting and solution. The educator narrated the story of ‘The Gingerbread Man’ with the help of a video and the concept was culminated through a brainstorming session. Oral drill of the ‘th’ sound words enabled the students to mentally join speech sounds together and decode unfamiliar words, using letter- sound patterns when reading. Grammar Students learnt the concept of action words with the help of is/ am/ are, while doing the exercise in the Nelson English Grammar Book. The children imitated the actions and played ‘Simon says’ games to enact the action words. The vocabulary was strengthened through the spelling drill of the Dolch words. In a mime, an actor tells a story through his facial expressions, gestures and body language. Students were made aware that mime is a silent act or an act without dialogues. It has a proper costume and makeup, and it enhances an actor’s facial expressions, gestures and body language. Students gained more knowledge about costume, makeup and props. Form(s) of Acting: Street Play Through the practice of this play, children understood the various components of acting and theatre.
