MATHEMATICSIn the month of October, students continued the learning of 'Multiplication' concept as repeated addition and grouping. They also learnt tables from 1 to 5 and wrote them in their notebook using repeated addition and skip counting. Students practiced equal grouping using ice trays and kidney beans. Students also enjoyed building on their logical and analytical skills by working on the Sep-Edu module. They were introduced to 2 D shapes and their properties using Powerpoint pictures. Later, they were explained about the difference between 2D and 3 D shapes by using classroom objects like water bottle, pencil box etc. Students had fun making colourful patterns using Geoboard kit from the Math lab which also made them understand the various patterns formed by using different sizes and shapes. EVSThe month of October started with the revision of the theme food as 'Farm to Plate' event where students dressed up as farmers, greengrocers, poultry farmers, milkmen, chef etc and shared their importance. The new theme 'Shelter and Community Helpers' started with the children sharing their thoughts and feelings about the need for shelter. Our little learners learnt about different types of houses through a PowerPoint Presentation. The topic of Kuccha house and Pucca house continued and children learnt about the characteristics of the same. As part of English integration, students enjoyed the storytelling of ‘Three Little Pigs’ and the sturdiness of different types of houses. The little enthusiasts were introduced to different rooms in a house and their purposes. The teacher also discussed the importance of a clean house with the help of a video. In addition, various safety measure that they should follow was discussed in class. Using Art integration as a tool, the children enjoyed house-making activity using coloured ice cream sticks. The topic "Our neighbourhood" was discussed with the students and its importance was explained with the help of a video. "My school" was discussed and children were made aware of the different room types used for different purposes. The students were taken for a 'School Tour' to show the different types of rooms in the school. The topic of ‘Community Helpers’ was introduced with a video on how homes are built and who are the people involved. The various community helpers at school were shared by the children and the important roles they hold were discussed. As experiential learning is an important way of learning, students were taken for a field trip to 'Fire Station' where they understood the role of the firefighter and their importance. They learnt how to hold a mouse, what sound does a mouse make, the 2 buttons of the mouse, how to drag and drop using the mouse. They enjoyed playing the 'Click' game and the 'Drag and Drop' game using the mouse on GCompris. ENGLISHIn October, Grade 1 student made significant progress in developing their communication skills. They grasped the concept of alphabetical order in a dictionary, engaged in read aloud exercises from Unit 6 'Toys,' and expanded their vocabulary by recording 'Amazing Words' in their notebooks. The chapter-end exercises were conducted interactively in which both students and the teacher collaborated to discover the correct answers. An exciting 'My First Dictionary' activity encouraged students to create their own colorful visual dictionaries. To enhance their public speaking abilities, a 'Show and Tell' session was organized, where children enthusiastically shared information about their favorite toys. They also demonstrated an understanding of demonstrative pronouns such as 'this,' 'that,' 'these,' and 'those' through a presentation, after which our young learners express their ideas related to the topic. Additionally, they learned to differentiate between 'Asking and Telling sentences.' Students further developed their reading skills by identifying common blends, words ending with -ff, -ss, and -ll, which contributed to improved fluency in reading the text. Furthermore, they were made aware of Dolch words list III followed by the notebook task. The 6 essential beginning steps of Classical Jazz Dance: Jazz and Blade hands, Point/ Flex feet, Kick Ball Change, Pivot turn, Jazz Square. 2. Students are still discovering how to reveal more confidence and self-value by learning Dance techniques. DANCE FORM: JAZZ SONG: 'BUTTER' by BTS DRAMAIn their Drama classes, the students learnt about different emotions and their execution through different activities: Activity 1: Act of "I am the Performer" In this activity, students performed the act of "I am the Performer" and delivered dialogues with 5 different emotions (Happy, Sad, Anger, Fear, Disgust). Through this, students got to know about RASA and BHAVA to express their feelings along with a style statement. Activity 2: Mirror Activity and Enactment In this activity, students easily understand the action of their co-performer and learn about their quick and slow action movement. These actions led them to know about the spontaneity of their own and their partner’s performance. Activity 3: Speak without Movement (Intro) In this activity, students introduce themselves with their name, class, father’s name, mother’s name, DOB, school’s name and address, hobbies, CT’s name and Helper Didi’s name. However, there was one interesting condition that they were not supposed to move from the chair that challenged them to control their body. Instruments used: Drums, bucket, piano VISUAL ARTStudents made bookmarks for Sadaya - Mental Health Wellness Week. They drew themselves, their family members and their favourite cartoon characters based on the topic 'Me, Myself and My Family'. They also created effigies of Ravana to commemorate the festival of Dussehra. Composition: Creative bookmarks and composition Art Technique: Free hand, colour mixing, colouring, outlining Art tools: Pencil, crayons, scale, drawing sheet. Learning Outcome: Development of observatory and motor skills, colouring , blending and fine line drawing. SDG:3 - Good Health and Wellbeing ASSEMBLYGRADE 1-A ‘Dussehra is a reminder that no matter how formidable the challenges, the power of truth and goodness always prevails.’ The students of Grade I-A conducted the vibrant and culturally enriched assembly on the occasion of ‘Dussehra.’ It was a celebration of our rich cultural heritage, showcasing the spirit of unity, harmony, and creativity. The assembly commenced with an enthralling theatrical performance, a one act play depicting important episodes from the mythological epic ‘Ramayana.’ With great enthusiasm and dedication, our young actors portrayed the characters of Lord Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, Hanuman, and others, bringing the sacred saga to life. Their loud expressions, colourful costumes, and impressive dialogue delivery captivated the audience, conveying the values of courage, righteousness, and devotion embedded in the epic. This was followed by a scintillating ‘Dandiya Dance’ performance. The rhythmic beats of the ‘Dandiya’ sticks echoed as the children danced with infectious energy and enthusiasm. Their colourful attire and synchronized movements added to the festive atmosphere, spreading joy and excitement everywhere. The assembly concluded with the motivational words by the Principal Ms. Guneet Ohri, who inspired the students and guided them to become responsible and compassionate individuals, contributing positively to the world around them. GRADE 1-B 'Halloween is a time for making new friends and sharing laughter.' A general assembly on ‘Halloween’ was conducted by Grade I B on 26.10.23 in the school gymnasium. The assembly began with an insightful thought, followed by a news update. The significance of the topic was conveyed in a more realistic and effective manner by the students through a small act and a mesmerizing ramp walk. A riveting quiz was conducted by the students to recap the topic. The little wonders won everyone’s hearts with their spooky ramp walk and were appreciated by Mansi Ma’am with her kind words of appreciation. The assembly culminated with the School Anthem and National Anthem. FARM TO PLATEThe educators hosted a fun-filled costume party for Grade I on the theme- ‘Farm to Plate’ which fostered their learning of the monthly theme- ‘Food’ and reiterated upon SDG -12, ‘Responsible Consumption and Production.’ Our young and talented children showcased their versatility by dressing up and doing a short role play as one of the key players in the farm to plate food cycle. Children came dressed up as Farmers, Vegetable Sellers, Milkmen, Grocers, Chefs, etc. and mesmerised us with their performances supported by the use of outstanding props such as tools used at the farm, green grocers market props, chef’s kitchen models and many more. Last but not the least, the message of ‘Zero Food Wastage’ was brought forward and the children took the pledge of not wasting food in their plates. SADAYA WEEKOur journey during Wellness Week, from October 9th to October 13th, was truly enchanting! Each day introduced a new theme, spreading happiness and positivity throughout Suncity School-37D. The children engaged in activities suitable for their age, igniting creativity and promoting teamwork. Our incredible teachers wholeheartedly embraced the themes with infectious enthusiasm. The children were involved in various activities, like, My Dream Jar, Expressing Gratitude, and Spin The Wheel fostering empathy. They also pinned a badge of smiley which emphasised on happiness and well being. The assemblies represented the resilience and hope that defines our community, emphasizing the bright days ahead even during challenging times. Together, we crafted a picture of support, well-being, and positivity. DANDIYA RAASThe Suncitizens of Grade I and II got engaged in ‘Dandiya Raas’ and learnt about the essence and significance of the 'Navratri Festival'. The traditional dance form not only taught the learners about the Indian Culture but also gave them an opportunity to bond with their peers. FIELD TRIP - FIRE STATIONThe Suncitizens of Grade I embarked on an enlightening excursion to the 'DLF Fire Services', DLF Phase V, aimed at fostering an understanding of the vital role played by community helpers in our lives. During the visit, a knowledgeable fire officer guided the young students on the proper procedure to contact the fire authorities in emergencies. The children observed how firefighters utilize their fire trucks during urgent situations. The firefighters showcased various tools and also provided a demonstration on the use of fire extinguishers. A mock drill, illustrating the entire process of fire elimination, enthralled the children, especially when they witnessed firefighters sliding down the pole as part of the rescue team's simulation. The students were given the opportunity to explore the emergency vehicles used by the firemen, and their curiosity led to insightful conversations with the firefighters. The trip's objective was to enhance visual learning and equip students with crisis management skills. It also emphasized the importance of quick thinking and presence of mind during critical situations.
