MathematicsStudents were introduced to the addition word problems by using visual aids and pictorial representations. They learnt to solve the story sums in their Mathematics lessons. The concept of 'Subtraction' was introduced, enabling students to grasp the idea of taking away objects from a group and finding the difference. They were introduced to ‘Subtraction terms’ by using vocabulary cards. Visual representations like drawings were utilized to help students visualize the process of 'Subtraction'. Subtraction was taught using two methods; by using number line and by counting backward to find the difference between the two numbers. Students also enjoyed working on the SEP module, thus building up their logical and analytical skills. Students were also assessed for the concept of 'Addition' through a revision worksheet. Environmental StudiesThe month of August started with the introduction of the topic, 'The World of Plants'. Discussion on parts of plants- fruits, flower, roots, stem, and leaves were done. The functions of different parts of plants were also discussed through video demonstrations. Students were made aware of the different types of plants like trees, shrubs, herbs, climbers, and creepers. The students spotted different 'Types of Plants' as they enjoyed Nature Walk. The same topic was taken up in the class with the help of a PowerPoint presentation and notebook work. The little enthusiasts were too excited to know about how the plant grows. The process of 'Germination' was introduced with the help of a video demonstration and the class activity of sowing seeds. This topic was an Integration with the English Unit- 'Growing beans'. Assembly Grade I A“Respect is one of the greatest expressions of love.” Keeping true to the wording of the quote, a general assembly was conducted on the topic 'I am Respectful' by the students of Grade IA on 4th August 2023. The assembly showed the importance of being respectful and kept the audience engrossed throughout the presentation. The students presented prayer, thought for the day, news, and new word was introduced to enhance the vocabulary. The assembly also included a few acts by the students which showed how can we be respectful towards our parents, teachers, and other living beings like animals, plants etc. This day concluded with the wise and motivational words by Principal ma'am and the soulful rendition of the National Anthem. Assembly Grade I B“We may have different religions, different languages, different colored skin, but we all belong to one human race.” A general assembly on ‘Unity in Diversity’ was conducted by Grade I B on 29.08.23 in the school gymnasium. The assembly began with an insightful thought, followed by a news update. The Significance of the topic was conveyed in a more realistic and effective manner by the students through small acts and a mesmerizing dance performance. A riveting quiz time was also conducted by the students to recap the topic. The little wonders left everyone spellbound by their presentation skills and were encouraged by Mansi Ma’am with her kind words of appreciation. The assembly culminated with the School Anthem and National Anthem. Assembly Grade I CThe Rakshabandhan assembly conducted by Grade I-C was a heartwarming event that beautifully combined the themes of soldiers' bravery and the significance of Rakshabandhan in the modern age. The assembly featured a skit and a captivating dance performance, both of which left a lasting impact on the audience. The centerpiece of the assembly was a skit performed by the students, which depicted the lives of soldiers and their dedication to protect nation. Bagless DayA 'Bagless Day' was observed during which the students watched the movie 'Madagascar' and then illustrated their ideas in their notebooks. STEM and Life SkillsThe T-shirt folding activity was a fun activity in which the children learnt about organization, comprehending instructions and hand-eye coordination. It develops their fine motor skills and also enhanced their Visual Spatial Intelligence.By incorporating this T-shirt folding activity the children were provided with a practical life skill while reinforcing the importance of good habits. Field Trip- Movie OutingAn educational field trip was planned for the children, combining the SDG15 (Life on Land) with the monthly theme of Animals. SDG14 - Life on Land focuses on protecting and restoring terrestrial ecosystems, promoting sustainable land use, and conserving biodiversity. Using the movie "Lyle Lyle Crocodile" was an appropriate choice as it likely highlighted themes related to animals and their interactions with the environment. Students learnt to identify 'Addition' keywords like more and total which enhanced their mathematical vocabulary. Further, the concept of vertical addition was taken with the help of place value blocks to develop addition skills. Students solved 2 digit numbers addition with the concept of tens and ones. Students learnt to add the numbers with carryover by using place value blocks. Environmental StudiesThe session commenced with welcoming the students after the summer break and engaging in an interactive discussion on the topic- 'How they enjoyed their Holidays.?' MATHEMATICSIn the month of April, students started Math lessons by strengthening the basics and a recap of what they studied in early years. A class discussion ensued where students were able to count different objects like number of tables, books around them correctly. The students were introduced to counting from 1 to 100 laying emphasis on the concept of Zero with the help of flash cards. They also learnt number names by writing random numbers in their notebook. Taking their understanding further, they learnt to compare numbers using greater than and smaller than sign. With the help of counting forward and backward, they were able to explain which number comes before or after a particular number. The students enjoyed arranging the numbers from 1 – 100 in ascending and descending order by playing a game using number flashcards ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCEThe new session commenced with lot of zeal and excitement. Students actively participated and introduced themselves to their peers and teachers. They did a recapitulation of 'Body parts' with the help of video demonstrations, labelling and colouring activity. They enjoyed identifying different parts of the body and their functions. They were made aware of the computer care tips to keep their computers safe. They were given a demo on how to hold a mouse as they played the mouse game using GCompris software. They learnt about the various electronic machines that we use in our daily lives and also understood that computer is also one such machine which we use for various purposes. ENGLISHOn the first day of the school, the learners enthusiastically took part in 'Me too and I Never' activity, where they introduced themselves confidently and discussed about their favourite activities. Literature- The young learners completed the Unit- ‘Using My Senses’ with an emphasis on glossary and writing activities. Presentation of the terms Auditory, Visual, Tactile, Olfactory and Gustatory was introduced through a class activity. Amazing words from the unit was done in the notebook. The students were encouraged to frame sentences independently through the oral activity. A blindfold game was played along with the students to evaluate the concept of five senses. Chapter end exercise, comprehension and alphabet writing was done in an interactive manner. Students completed the Unit- 'My Family' with a focus on reading and writing skills. 'Role Play' activity on any one of the family member was done and children participated in the same. Chapter end exercise, comprehension and vocabulary building exercises were done in an interactive session. Grammar- The commencement for the concept of 'Naming Words' was done in a fascinating way through the game-Name/Place/Creature/Thing and an activity 'Mystery Box'. A video related to the same was shown to the students to get a better understanding of the concept. 'Noun Tree' activity was done to evaluate the understanding of the concept. Introductiuon of 'sh' words through an exciting activity followed by the mind map making in the notebook. Introduction of Vowels was done through a video demonstration. Hand print activity was done in the class for the better understanding of ' Vowels'. For self-assessment, children attempted a book exercise on 'Vowels'. Fable Festival- ‘The more you read, the more things you will know.’… Listening to fables and reading them in the month of July, the Fable Festival taught Grade 1 and II students, important lessons and developed a strong foundation for the enjoyment of fiction. They explored fables, which play an important role in highlighting and demonstrating character traits. The reading comprehension was encouraged and students kept developing their reading abilities.Retelling fiction read- aloud, and making opinions orally demonstrated understanding of reading comprehension skills. Students excitedly shared their knowledge about the Universe, Galaxy, Solar System etc. The students were asked about what do they see in the sky during the day and night, to which they responded- clouds, birds, aeroplane. Sun, moon, planets, stars etc. The topic of 'Galaxy' was introduced, where students were informed that the name of our galaxy is 'Milky way Galaxy'. The topic 'Solar System' was further discussed and 'Facts about the Planets' were shared with the students. Students learned about the 'Phases of Moon' with the help of 'Oreo Biscuit Activity'. The topic was concluded by revision through worksheets. Math In the month of February, students strengthened their understanding of 3 digit numbers. Students understood that every number has a place – ones and tens, through place value blocks and flash cards. Taking their learning forward, students learnt to compare numbers using crocodile sign. Arranging numbers in ascending and descending numbers was taught using blocks ( small to big and big to small). It is a day when students, teachers, and staff come together to participate in various sports and games. The objective of this event is to encourage physical activity, promote teamwork and sportsmanship among students, and to foster a sense of community within the institution. Typically, Annual Sports Day involves various sporting events such as locomotor activities, non-locomotor activities, manipulation skills, striking skills, indigenous games. Apart from the athletic events, yoga, gymnastics and Judo were also highlights of the day. This day was a highly anticipated event for the students, and it served as a break from the usual routine of classes and studies. The Annual Sports meet was held for the students of Foundation Years (EYP till Grade II). The event was organised in conjunction with the Sustainable Development Goals 3, 14, 15, 16 and 17 to inculcate environmental awareness in the young minds from early on. OORJA represented Suncity’s “Integrated Sports Programme” where each child gets exposure to a variety of sports offered by the school. The term OORJA also symbolises the agility, vigour and robustness of Suncitizens as they prepare themselves to be healthy world citizens displaying willingness to participate and sportsmanship. The event sprang open with the Principal welcoming the Chief Guest Ms. Sunil Dabas, Padmashree recipient and National Kabaddi Coach, along with the members of the management—who always emphasise the significance of sports in overall development of a child. The athletic event commenced with a vibrant Walk by young Suncitizens to the tunes of a sprightly number. The Principal also joyously accompanied the tiny tots reminiscing her own childhood days. The parents, grandparents and siblings of our young athletes were astonished by the amazing sporting activities put up by the little wonders of Suncity. The races/ drills concentrated not only on the mobility and alertness but also on developing sensitivity towards the environment. ‘Crawling Caterpillar,’ ‘Scooping the Waste,’ ‘Fish Me Out’ (where students had to save the fish in multiples of three—incorporating Mathematical intelligence as well), and ‘Around the World’ are only a few examples of the various activities that filled the day. The assembly started with news updates and positive thought. The young minds shared the significance of Republic Day and the contribution made by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Children learnt to draw a monument for Republic day; musical instrument and swan for Basant Panchami; and a bonefire and kites for Lohri festival by visualizing the pictures. Mathematics Students were introduced to the ‘Time’ concept in their Math lessons. Important facts related to weekdays , months and year were revised .They understood the difference between analog and digital clock. Students learnt to tell time o'clock and half past using the analog clock drawing in their notebook. Students strengthened their understanding of the Time concept by using Visnos clock. EVS The month of December started with the children sharing their thoughts and feelings about the need for ‘Water’ in their lives. English Literature The month of December brought the sound of the tinkling bells of Christmas, bringing joy and merriment to our minds. The joyous clamour of excitement was felt throughout the month. It is a good exercise for mind and body coordination, it also improves the body posture. Drama Story Telling The students actively enjoy listening to stories and imagining a world of their own. In order to enhance their thinking skills and arouse curiousity in terms of all the different ideas that exist in the world, storytelling and enactment through stories like "Alladin in the Modern World", "What if you were a Superhero for a day?" encourage kids to explore the depths of their imagination and define for themselves, a thought process to enhance the teaching learning process on a whole in terms of relating different subjects. The ideas find a way to express themselves through their enactment and understanding of the stories in consideration. Speech and Confidence Building Exercises The clarity of speech and how kids enunciate a word is a crucial point to be taken care of when it comes to expressions and emotions. The correct pronunciation and ability to project the voice without faltering in the speech is something we can only nurture at this budding young age. This change can positively influence their capabilities in terms of listening and speaking, and allow every child an opportunity to develop public speaking skills. Nothing teaches you more than exploring the world and accumulating experiences.”-Mark Patterson The word excursion evokes a feeling of excitement and a sense of exhilaration. This year the students of Grades I & II went to ‘Never Enuf Garden Railway’ Manesar, for their annual excursion. The trip aimed at providing the learners an experience outside the school environment and allowed them to observe new things in a completely different setting. ‘Never Enuf’ is the only garden railway in North India brought to life by Mr. Aadesh, a train-modelling enthusiast who has installed his creations in a Lilliput’s world, straight out of a picture book. The exuberant children, bubbling with excitement, got a close experience of a miniature world in an enchanting display of trains, motor-controlled boats and cars in their own small world of houses, industries, and bridges, perfectly syncing with the theme for this month- ‘Transport’ and SDG 9- ‘Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure’. Apart from admiring the miniature rail world, the young ‘Suncitizens’ also learnt about ticket windows, signals, railway crossings and station masters. The children were made aware of, how to deal with emergency situations involving fire escapes and more. AssembliesI A The young Suncitizens of Grade I-A, conducted their class assembly on the theme-‘Universal Kindness Day’ on 15th November. Students were made aware of the significance of the Universal Kindness Day by highlighting the importance and by connecting it with the real-life examples. Being kind to others instils a positive feeling and makes this world a better place to live. The assembly showcased the talent of the children and effectively conveyed the message that kindness is an act of compassion, love, concern and sympathy. I B ''Tolerance is a virtue that depends upon peace and strength" - Charles Linderburg Students of class 1 B presented a beautiful assembly on 22nd November on the topic ‘I am Tolerant’. The assembly gave a message of being tolerant and accepting people as they are. It showcased the talent of the children and effectively conveyed the message that being tolerant is an act of compassion, love, concern and sympathy. Being tolerant to others instils a positive feeling and makes this world a better place to live. The assembly concluded with a beautiful musical act performed by the students which tells us about accepting everyone as they are as 'We are all amazing'. IC "Winter is not a season, it's a celebration." Grade 1C proved the wordings of this quote true by welcoming winter season with open arms through their assembly on the 29th of November. The assembly started with news updates and positive thought. The young minds shared all the related information on winter and successfully, brought the cheerfulness of the season through a joyful song. Children’s Day is celebrated in remembrance of India’s first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru, popularly known as Pandit Nehru, who was born on 14th of November in the year 1889. Suncity School-37 D organized an amazing “Science Magic Show” for the young Suncitizens. The magician performed several bewildering tricks that left our little Suncitizens astonished and awestruck. Not only a magic show, but our little ones also enjoyed a movie time with their friends while snacking on delicious popcorns and chocolates. Our children had a memorable experience as they enjoyed the wonderful events and went back home happy and overjoyed. MathematicsStudents continued the learning of the 'Multiplication' concept as repeated addition and grouping. They also learnt tables from 1 to 5 and wrote them in their notebook using jodo blocks. EVSThe month of October started with the children sharing their thoughts and feelings about the need for shelter in their lives. Our little learners learnt about different types of houses through a PowerPoint Presentation. The topic of Kuccha house and Pucca house continued and children learnt about the characteristics of the same. As part of English integration students enjoyed watching the story- ‘Three Little Pigs’ and discussed about the three different types of houses, the pigs made in the story. The little enthusiasts were introduced to different rooms in a house. The teachers also discussed the importance of a clean house with a help of a video and a PowerPoint presentation. In addition, various safety measures that they should follow were discussed in the class. As an art integration activity, the children enjoyed house making craft using coloured paper and stick/straws in their artbook. The topic 'Our neighbourhood' was discussed with the students and the importance of neighbourhood community was explained to the children with the help of a video demonstration. Children were taken for a school tour and they were made aware of the different types of rooms used for different purposes in a school. They got a hands-on-experience in fire safety and the essential community helper- the ‘Firefighter’. They watched how firefighters use their fire trucks in an emergency. The firefighters showed them the different equipment used by them and demonstrated the use of a fire extinguisher. Children were ecstatic when they saw a firefighter slide down the pole. They asked many questions to the firefighters. The firefighters were surprised by the inquisitiveness of the children. They were told about the emergency number where they can call when there is a fire. Their visit was aimed at learning about the duties of firefighters and also to get fire safety measures for day-to-day life. One tradition links the festival to legends in the Hindu epic Ramayana, where Diwali is the day when Rama, Sita, Lakshman and Hanuman reached Ayodhya after a period of 14 years in exile after Rama's army of good defeated the demon king Ravana's army of evil. On this auspicious occasion students performed a peppy dance on a Diwali Song. Western Dance"When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor; it's to enjoy each step along the way." The session began with a new dance style- Tap dance on 'Don't worry be happy' song imbibing the spirit of happiness on the joyous occasion of Diwali and giving them a basic knowledge and significance of Diwali. We used freestyle body movements along with rhythmic foot movements (tapping and shuffling) to create a new choreography. They were also taught the basic levels of body like plie and relieve. It is a good exercise for mind and body coordination, it also improves the body posture. Visual ArtsStudents were introduced to poster on 'SDG – 14 Life Below Water' where they learnt how to protect marine life by not throwing garbage or plastic waste in sea water. An art integration activity with EVS to make the students aware about the loss of life below water. They came up with beautiful colour scheme themselves. Children were also explained to draw Diwali festival scene where they were shown pictures of Diwali decorations. Students were encouraged to draw diya decorated and filled with different designs. CelebrationsMATHEMATICSThis month the students continued with their learning of 'Subtraction' with the vertical method. They were introduced to word problems by story telling. Later on, they solved word problems. Students were assessed for Mental Math (Numbers up to 100 ) through a class oral quiz. They also attempted an assessment on 'Addition'. They learnt about multiplication through a class activity using playdough to understand the concept of 'Multiplication' as repeated addition. They used the class resources to learn this concept. The common properties of multiplication were discussed, where the product remains same irrespective of the numbers changing their' order. Repeated Addition' concept was taught to memorize multiplication facts and to form multiplication equation using the method. EVSThe month of September started with the commencement of students’ learning journey on the topic- 'Plants'. The subtopic 'Germination' was explained with the help of a planting activity in the class where our little enthusiasts were extremely happy to see their seeds growing into small plants. The students were briefed about the SDG-;15 'Life on Land' where they learnt about how to protect plants by not wasting paper and planting more trees. The students were taken for a 'Nature Walk' where they saw different types of plants and many vegetables like Brinjal, Chilli, Lemon in our school kitchen garden. The revision of the theme plants was done through an activity 'Pick your Chit' wherein the students picked up the chits and spoke about different types of plants, their parts and uses. The concept initiation of the topic 'FOOD' was done with a discussion on importance of food and the sources of food. Students were briefed about different types of food like- Energy giving food, protective food, muscle building food, milk & dairy products and fats & sugars. Students learnt about the balanced diet and its importance with the help of 'Food plate activity'. Taking the topic forward, the educator explained the difference between 'Junk and Healthy food' and students wrote about different healthy and junk food in their notebooks. 'Table Manners'- Do's and Don'ts were briefed to the class where they learnt about eating etiquettes and respecting the food. Different kitchen utensils used in the kitchen were discussed and a 'Visit to the Refectory' was done to showcase the different utensils used in the school kitchen. Fruit puppet was made as a part of Integration with Art where they were overjoyed to make figurines from the fruits they brought. ENGLISHLiterature This month is a special month for the students and the teachers as we celebrated Teacher’s Day on 5th September. It marks the birth anniversary of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the second President of free India. Children made beautiful cards for their teachers to express their bond and affection. Students completed the Unit- 5 ‘I like…’ with focus on reading, comprehension and writing skills. The young learners were introduced to the chapter through 'Guided Writing' where they were asked to draw their favourite weather and write a few sentences about it. Group and loud reading was promoted to foster correct pronunciaton and diction in the children. 'Amazing words' were done in the notebook. AssemblyThe young Suncitizens of Gurade I-C, conducted their class assembly on the occasion of ‘Muharram’ on 5th August. Students were made aware of the significance of the day of Muharram by highlighting the rituals followed by Muslims. The assembly concluded with a soulful Sufi performance by the children and observance of a few moments of silence in respect to the mourning occasion. The students of Grade 1D conducted their class assembly on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami.. The Krishna Janmashtami festival marks the birth of Krishna, one of the most popular deities worshipped by Hindus. The students praised their friends with the significance of the festival through beautiful enactment of the birth of Lord Krishna. The event concluded with melodious Bhajan, a mesmerising dance performance by the students on the song, followed by Dahi Handi and the National Anthem. ''Kindness is the language which the dumb can speak, the deaf can hear and the blind can see.'' - Mark Twain Students of class 1 E presented a beautiful assembly on 26th August on the topic ‘Compassion’. The assembly comprised of kindness acts which shows the feeling of compassion. It showcased the talent of the children and effectively conveyed the message that kindness is an act of compassion, love, concern and sympathy. Being kind to others instils a positive feeling and makes this world a better place to live. The kindness acts were followed by a pledge where children took the pledge to be kind to everyone. Independence Day CelebrationsSuncity School 37D celebrated India’s 75th Independence Day with immense respect and strong patriotic feelings. The Suncitizens extended a warm welcome to the Honourable Chief Guest, the Director General of Haryana Institute of Public Administration, Red. DGP Ranjiv Singh Dalal. Members of the Management at Suncity School 37D also graced the occasion. The flag hoisting ceremony set the tune for the rest of the program. The cultural program commenced with a wonderful rendition of the song Vande Mataram by the school choir. It was followed by a splendid dance performance. The students instilled the importance of self-defence and showcased their Judo skills which left the audience awestruck and inspired. This was followed by the glorification of India in the ancient language, Sanskrit. A grand and graceful fusion dance performance on the song 'Aye mere Watan ke logon' struck a strong emotional chord among the audience.The program culminated with the address and motivating words of the Chief Guest, which enthused and enlightened the students. The Principal in her address urged the students to instill discipline in themselves in order to be successful. Budding author Arshya Prinjal and artists Navya Shankar and Triman Kaur Mullay, all 7th graders, presented their respective works to the Chief Guest. Mathematics Students learnt to add the numbers with carryover by using place value blocks. They also learnt to solve the story sums in their Mathematics lessons. The concept of 'Subtraction' was introduced as a take away process by using classroom objects. They were introduced to ‘Subtraction terms’ by using vocabulary cards. Subtraction was taught using two methods; by using number lines and by counting backward to find the difference between the two numbers. Students also enjoyed building on their logical and analytical skills by working on the SEP module. EVSThe month of September commenced with the learning about different types of birds- 'Flying and Flightless birds with the help of a video demonstration and notebook work. Our little learners were introduced to different types of insects through the topic 'The world of Animals'. The children attempted an interactive worksheet in order to consolidate their learning. A new topic 'The World of Plants' was introduced where students were made aware of the different types of plants like trees, shrubs, herbs, climbers and creepers. Discussion about parts of plants also took place and the functions of the different parts of plants were explained with the help of a PowerPoint presentation. The little enthusiasts were too excited to know about how a plant grows. The process of 'Germination' was introduced with the help of video demonstration and a hands on experiment on 'Seed Germination'. ArtThe students were introduced to Independence Day drawing in which they were shown pictures of symbols representing the nation. Students were encouraged to draw the National Flag. They learnt the symbolic colours of our country‘s flag and practiced merging and proper filling with oil pastels. Learners also learnt to draw a Rainy Day drawing and Lord Ganesha on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi in which they understood the curves used at different places in drawing.
