MATHS The month of January started with recap of 'Time'. Three digit numbers were introduced by number cards and place value blocks. Number cards were also used to identify 'What comes Before/After. The conceptual understanding of students was strengthened using hands on approach. Students understood that every number has a place – ones and tens, through place value blocks. Taking their learning forward, students learnt to compare numbers using crocodile sign. Arranging numbers in ascending and descending numbers was taught using blocks ( small to big and big to small). Students played games using number flash cards to practice ascending and descending order. They had a fun time doing Shin Edu workbook pages with different shapes. EVS Students returned from the winter vacation with a happy and joyful mood. The month of January started with the topic ‘Festivals’. The colour and cheerfulness of the topic, Festivals were rightfully expressed by our young first graders, with much cheerfulness. Students learnt about different Religious and National festivals and the relevance of the National Flag and National Holidays. Students were introduced to different Seasons of the year and also learnt about the fruits and clothes related to a particular season. Students learnt about the difference between Weather and Season and revision of the theme was done through the activity 'Sorting the weather' where they pasted pictures of different seasons in their respective columns. Introduction of the topic 'Universe' was done in the month of February. Students excitedly shared their knowledge about Universe, galaxy, solar system etc. The students were asked about what do they see in the sky during the day and night to which they responded- clouds, birds, aeroplanes. Sun, moon, planets, stars etc. The topic of galaxy was introduced where students were informed that the name of our galaxy is 'Milky way Galaxy'. The topic of further continued about the solar system and 'facts about the planets'. Students were mesemerized to hear the story about the astronaut and to see the real astronaut in space through the video and how they survive in space. Students learned about the 'phases of moon'. Recap of planets of the solar system took place through an interesting quiz where students had to guess the planet in the 'solar system model'. ICT Students learnt about MS Paint. They were guided to use MS Paint. They learnt to Open, draw and colour in MS Paint. They created a drawing on Spring Season, using brushes and colours. ENGLISH Literature-The chapter 'Jack and the Special Beans' was introduced creatively through 'Reader's Theatre' fostering discussions on characters, settings, and the story's structure. Students engaged in activities involving vocabulary from the unit, constructing sentences in their notebooks. A Q&A session at the end of the chapter allowed children to demonstrate their understanding. In a Role Play activity, students enjoyed embodying various story characters. Grammar- The concept of prepositions was introduced through the popular game 'Simon Says' followed by a 'Draw The Prepositions' activity to enhance listening skills. Students practiced framing sentences using 'Prepositions.' Their vocabulary was enriched through learning 'Dolch words list-6.' Additionally, students identified common blends and words ending with 'oa', 'o-e', and 'ow.' Literature- In the month of February, our students explode in their learning! The students actively engaged in both fiction and non-fiction reading and writing activities. The chapter 'Tigers' was introduced through a fun game of 'Tag Your Peer', where students took turns reading aloud sections of the lesson. Vocabulary from the chapter was practiced through the 'Amazing Words'. In addition, students eagerly participated in a Poster Making Activity focused on tigers, showcasing their creativity and presenting their posters to the class. Grammar-The introduction of 'Jumbled Sentences' and 'Jumbled Words' utilized students' prior knowledge, with word unscrambling activities conducted via audio visuals. These concepts were further reinforced through practice exercises in notebooks. Grammar concepts such as 'Special Naming Words' and 'Opposites' were reviewed to consolidate previous learning. Dance techniques about the dynamics of body weight as the body rose, fell, and remained in suspension during a dance. 6. Movements to improve a dancer's quality of movement which adds strength while developing dynamic and exciting movement qualities. 7. Unique use of space, weight, and music. 8. Simple exercises that can be later enhanced to challenge modern dance movements and improve one's coordination significantly. 9. This timeless classic will come to life on stage, showcasing the creativity and dedication of our young performers. To make this event a memorable experience for our students, we did a series of activities leading up to the big day: Activity 1:- Students enhanced their creativity but also provide a hands-on experience in the world of theatre arts. Activity 2:- Character Exploration: Through fun games and activities, students went deeper into the personalities of their characters. They learnt how to embody the emotions of their roles, making their performances more authentic and engaging. Activity 3:- Set Design and Decoration: Our budding artists worked together to design and decorate the set for "The Wizard of Oz." This collaborative efforts enhanced their teamwork skills and also gave them a sense of ownership over the production. Activity 4:- Rehearsal Schedule: Regular rehearsals held to ensure that every student is well-prepared for the performance. These rehearsals were not only focus on acting but also on stage presence, voice modulation, and overall performance skills. The topic for the respective month was Personal Hygiene. The goal of the module was to help students understand and practice healthy habits and maintain personal hygiene. The module elaborated upon the concept of maintaining personal hygiene by keeping oneself clean, eating healthy food and keeping the environment clean. It was delivered in an interactive manner using demonstration, storytelling and visual aids.

MATHSThe concept of ' Time ' was introduced in the month of Decemeber. Important facts related to weekdays , months and year were revised . Students were explained how to see a particular day in the calendar. They also made calendar for the month of January 2024 and marked all important days. The difference between analog and digital clock was explained by showing two different clocks. Students learnt to tell time o'clock and half past using the analog clock drawing in their notebook. Students strengthened their understanding of the Time concept by using Visnos clock. EVSThe month of December started with the children sharing their thoughts and feelings about the need for ‘Water’ in their lives. Our little scholars learnt about different sources of water through a 'PowerPoint Presentation.' The students learnt about the properties of water with the help of audio-visual aids and a few experiments. The teachers discussed the importance of clean water with the help of a video demonstration and made the students aware of the impact of 'Water Pollution'. The little learners made beautiful pictures on the topic ‘Save Water’ as an art integration activity. The topic ‘Air’ was introduced with a video demonstration and by observing the surroundings. The students learnt about the properties of 'Air'. The little curious minds also learnt about the various steps that should be taken to keep the air clean. They were sensitized on how they can contribute in keeping the air clean in their own small ways. Literature In December, the delightful chimes of Christmas bells filled the air, spreading happiness and cheer. The month was filled with an atmosphere of joyful anticipation. Kids engaged in exploring 'Factual Writing' with a focus on Unit 8- 'All about Foxes'. To capture their interest, the unit commenced with an intriguing 'Animal Riddle'. A 'Book Cover Activity' guided them to understand the components of a book - front cover, back cover, and key content - prompting them to craft a book cover featuring their beloved animals. Making friends means finding people you enjoy spending time with. It's like starting an adventure where you say hello, ask about their favorite things, and be friendly. When you show kindness and interest in others, you can make wonderful new friends. In the "The Matching Game," each child was provided with a sheet of a particular color. The objective was for the children to find and team up with others who possess the same colored sheet.They needed to search around, say hello, and, upon finding a match, form a small group or pair. This game was an excellent way to foster social interaction, cooperation, and color recognition skills. Students were encouraged to think about how they feel when they have friends, how does being around their friends make them feel? The Friendship Awards activity was significant because it enabled children to develop social skills, encourages their creativity, and reinforces the importance of friendship. It's a hands-on opportunity for kids to express their feelings, show appreciation, and establish new connections. They made hut , rockets , car and ships etc. Students learnt about money and different types of currency as coins and paper notes. Barter system was also explained by an activity of exchanging things. Denominations used in Indian currency were shown to the students. Difference between paper notes and coins were explained. 'Role Play' activity where students acted as buyers and customers was done using their toys . They had fun while exchanging money and their favourite toys. Students were introduced to essential safety rules and the rules that we need to follow at different places like at school, at home, while travelling in a car or bus, while swimming, on the road. During the visit, a knowledgeable fire officer guided the young students on the proper procedure to contact the fire authorities in emergencies. Incorporating outdoor excursions and interactive exercises is an effective method to captivate young minds and nurture their curiosity about vital subjects. The children explored 'Gurwara Farms,' where they encountered various crops such as grains, millets, fruits and vegetables, simultaneously gaining insights into the significance of food. It is a day when students, teachers, and staff come together to participate in various sports and games. Focussing on the idea of letting expression define what it means in terms of emotions in different situations, the end of this academic year was focussed upon identification and imitation of simple and complex emotions, understanding the basics of the stage and how to conduct themselves on and around it. Nothing teaches better than a task undertaken and hence, they were told to weave stories of their own through collaborative efforts with each other and hence, letting the imagination run wild and free while inculcating a sense of teamwork. It’s the will to prepare to win that matters more.” – Paul Bryant, former Football Player and Coach Suncity School-37D showcased OORJA through its younger Suncitizens on the sprawling grounds of the school on Saturday, March 04, 2023. The Annual Sports meet was held for the students of Foundation Years (EYP till Grade II). The event was organised in conjunction with the Sustainable Development Goals 3, 14, 15, 16 and 17 to inculcate environmental awareness in the young minds from early on. OORJA represented Suncity’s “Integrated Sports Programme” where each child gets exposure to a variety of sports offered by the school. The term OORJA also symbolises the agility, vigour and robustness of Suncitizens as they prepare themselves to be healthy world citizens displaying willingness to participate and sportsmanship. The event sprang open with the Principal welcoming the Chief Guest Ms. Sunil Dabas, Padmashree recipient and National Kabaddi Coach, along with the members of the management—who always emphasise the significance of sports in overall development of a child. The athletic event commenced with a vibrant Walk by young Suncitizens to the tunes of a sprightly number. The Principal also joyously accompanied the tiny tots reminiscing her own childhood days. The parents, grandparents and siblings of our young athletes were astonished by the amazing sporting activities put up by the little wonders of Suncity. The races/ drills concentrated not only on the mobility and alertness but also on developing sensitivity towards the environment. ‘Crawling Caterpillar,’ ‘Scooping the Waste,’ ‘Fish Me Out’ (where students had to save the fish in multiples of three—incorporating Mathematical intelligence as well), and ‘Around the World’ are only a few examples of the various activities that filled the day. Along with various races/ drills, gymnastics and Judo also kept the audience gripped. The event was pepped up with the joyful encouragement by the cheerleaders. The Parent Engagement activities were a riveting part of the day. Everyone was fascinated by the participation of the parents. ‘Yoga for World Peace’ emanated enriching vibes and filled the atmosphere with serenity. The Chief Guest shared a personal anecdote about the 2010 Asian Games to highlight the vital role of motivation and appreciation in building a child’s confidence. She commended the PE team, and counselled the parents to inculcate respect for each other and a healthy competitiveness in their wards. The Grand Finale captivated the hearts of the viewers. The event was a resounding success which left the students, parents and the school community brimming with exhilaration. Assemblies"I like the religion that teaches religion, equality and fraternity." - DR. B.R.Ambedkar" The 74th Republic Day was celebrated with pride and reverence with an assembly by Grade 1 E. The assembly started with news updates and positive thought. The young minds shared the significance of Republic Day and the contribution made by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The students gave a beautiful dance performance to pay tribute to our motherland. The assembly was concluded by a quiz where our young minds tested knowledge of the audience about our country's important facts. In the last, the students take an oath to maintain the sovereignty of our country by performing our duties and work towards equality. “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” Keeping true to the wordings of the quote, a general assembly was conducted on the topic, “I am Truthful” by the students of Grade ID on 31st January 2023. The assembly showed the importance of being truthful and kept the audience engrossed throughout the presentation. The students presented prayer, thought for the day, news and new word was introduced to enhance the vocabulary. The assembly also included the poem on the topic truthful. The students also highlighted the significance of being true in situation through a role play. This day was culminated by wise and motivational words by The Section head, Ms. Mansi Bhatnagar. The assembly concluded with the rendition of the National Anthem. MathematicsThe month of January started with recap of 'Time'. The children attended online classes for week 2 and 3 where the concept of 'Calendar' was introduced using pictures. The students learnt how to check a date with month in a particular year. Also three digit numbers were introduced by a short number comparison problem. Students were given a number to play the number race game to identify the number that comes before and after the given number. Number cards were also used to identify 'What comes Before/After. Students learnt about the 'Place Value of Numbers' and 'Number Names' up to 300 using resources- place value blocks and number cards. The conceptual understanding of students was strengthened using hands on approach. Environmental ScienceStudents returned from the winter vacation in a happy and joyful mood. The month of January started with the topic ‘Festivals’. The colour and cheerfulness of the topic, Festivals were rightfully expressed by our young first graders. Students learnt about different Religious and National festivals and the relevance of the National Flag and National Holidays. Students were introduced to different 'Seasons of the Year'. They also learnt about the fruits and clothes related to a particular season. Students learnt about the difference between Weather and Season and maintained a weekly weather report to analyse the changes of weather each day through class discussions. 'Seasons Wheel' activity was done in the class where students learnt about different things that we use in different seasons. Then the storage were discussed like CDs and Pendrive. A revision quiz on the previous topic was conducted in order to test their knowledge and understanding. The topic concluded with the brain developer exercise. EnglishAll the children loved coming back to offline classes after attending two weeks of online sessions and a refreshing winter break. They couldn’t hold the excitement and eagerly shared thrilling adventures and their new year resolutions. Literature The introduction of the chapter “Jack and the Special Beans” was done through the See-Think-Wonder routine, which helped stimulate their curiosity and inquiry through careful observations. Rubric for visible thinking routine was used by students for self-assessment. Reading of the play “Jack and the Special Beans” was done in a very creative manner through the Reader’s Theatre. In-depth discussions were done about characters, settings, beginning, and end of the story. Amazing words from the unit were done where students framed sentences while completing the work in the notebook. Chapter end Q&A session was done where children were able to answer the questions posed. Post that, they completed the question answers in the notebook. Children vividly described the various settings and experienced the joy of acting while enacting the different characters of the story in the ‘Role Play’ activity. Grammar Introduction of 'Prepositions' was done through the all-time favourite 'Simon Says' game, followed by a story sequencing activity with the help of props. Children were able to frame sentences using 'Prepositions'. Their vocabulary was enhanced through Dolch words list-6. Bhangra is a traditional folk dance that’s a staple of the region’s culture. The dance itself has an incredibly rich history, not to mention the beautiful costumes, choreography, and music. In the month of January, Suncitizens learnt Bhangra folk dance steps on 'Vibe' song on the occasion of Lohri festival. Western Dance"When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor; it's to enjoy each step along the way." The month of January began with a new dance style -Bhangra- on 'Vibe' song imbibing the spirit of happiness. We used freestyle body movements along with rhythmic foot movements (tapping and shuffling) to create a new choreography. They were also taught the basic levels of movements like plie and shoulder. It is a good exercise for mind and body coordination, it also improves the body posture. DramaThe month of January is a sign of a new beginning and hope. With what this month brings in for us, we need to realize how we can imagine and build worlds of our own through different ideas of qualities, physicalities, and unique specialties mingled together which make up who we are as an individual. To engage that power of imagination and knowledge of different characters that they come across every day, students were made to discover their own qualities that distinguish them from each other and then to create a character that comes right out of their minds. This activity enables them to identify different stories from different characters and choose one for their own. ArtStudents were introduced to the monthly theme 'Festivals and Seasons' where they drew India Gate and a scene of Lohri festival. They learnt about Basant Panchami and why it is celebrated. Children learnt to draw a monument for Republic day; musical instrument and swan for Basant Panchami; and a bonefire and kites for Lohri festival by visualizing the pictures. Students were encouraged to draw a monument using scale, where they improved their line drawing. The topic was integrated with SDG-4. They came up with the beautiful artwork.
