In December, Grade 1 students explored the informative text All About Foxes. Through riddles, guided reading and discussions, children learned interesting facts about foxes and improved reading fluency and comprehension. The unit also encouraged awareness about animals and their habitats. Creative activities such as designing a book cover of a favourite animal or story helped students express their understanding in an imaginative way.
Grammar
Grammar lessons focused on prepositions or position words. Through the “Simon Says” game, storytelling and picture-based exercises, students learned to use words like in, on, under, behind and in front of to describe the position of objects. These activities helped children use prepositions confidently in simple sentences.
Vocabulary and Writing
Vocabulary building included Dolch Sight Words (List 5), jumbled sentences and phonics activities on ck, nk blends and the th sound. Regular practice strengthened reading confidence and word recognition. Writing skills were developed through handwriting practice, picture composition and simple speaking tasks, where students presented their work with clarity and confidence.

MATHEMATICS

Students were introduced to the concept of Data Handling along with key vocabulary such as survey, data, table, and pictograph. To develop understanding, learners were asked to count and identify the number of live objects present in the classroom and record the data in a table.

Following this activity, students were introduced to pictographs using live objects, which helped them understand the concept in an engaging and practical way. They then practiced drawing and interpreting pictographs by answering different questions.

Later in the month, learners recapitulated number concepts including number names, before and after, comparison of numbers, and ascending and descending order for numbers from 1–100. Subsequently, the same concepts were reinforced for numbers from 100–200.

INDIAN MUSIC

Children day song
It’s a Small World” is a cheerful song that celebrates unity, friendship,
and the idea that children everywhere—no matter where they come from—share similar hopes, joys, and dreams.
It reminds us that the world feels smaller and kinder when we treat each other with love and understanding
Swar Tarang is a melodic Indian classical instrument made up of several small tuned metal bowls or plates.
Each bowl is filled with water to adjust the pitch, and when struck gently with sticks, they produce clear,
ringing musical notes. The performer plays different bowls to create a flowing melody,
giving the effect of “waves of notes,” which is why it is called Swar Tarang (meaning “waves of sound”)
Dhol Pattern:
A dhol pattern is a rhythmic cycle played on the dhol, a traditional double-sided drum used in Indian and Punjabi music.
It combines strong bass strokes on one side and sharp treble strokes on the other to create energetic, rhythms.
Common patterns—like bhangra theka (dha-tu na, na-tu na)**—set the beat for dance and celebrations, giving the music its lively, powerful feel.

Literature
This month, our young learners explored Unit 6 – Toys. Through engaging discussions and group reading, children not only learned about different toys but also reflected on the importance of sharing and playing responsibly. The activities highlighted the joy of play while reinforcing the value of safety and care. Our “Amazing Words” exercise enriched their vocabulary, and children began building their very own mini-dictionaries—an exciting step toward independent word learning.
Grammar
The focus of grammar this month was on opposites and describing words. Children learned to identify word pairs such as hot–cold, big–small, and happy–sad through games, songs, and interactive classroom tasks. Practical demonstrations—like comparing full and empty bottles or thick and thin books—helped them connect grammar to real life. These activities sharpened their vocabulary, encouraged sentence formation, and deepened their understanding of how words describe the world around them.
Vocabulary & Writing
Vocabulary building and writing went hand in hand this month. Students explored “Amazing Words” and arranged them in alphabetical order to begin creating their own mini-dictionaries—a fun introduction to dictionary skills. They practiced applying new words in sentences, boosting both confidence and comprehension.
Writing activities focused on neatness, structure, and creativity. Handwriting practice included meaningful lines such as “Food gives us energy to play” and “We need healthy food to grow.” Guided writing tasks encouraged children to write about their favourite fruit in simple sentences, while creative writing activities gave them space to express imagination. Together, vocabulary and writing exercises helped children build strong word banks and develop clarity in expression.

Mathematics

This month, our young learners were introduced to the concept of multiplication through engaging, hands-on activities. To build a strong foundation, multiplication was first explained as repeated addition, helping children connect it to familiar ideas. They also discovered the commutative property, understanding that the product remains the same regardless of the order of numbers.
Students practiced multiplication on a number line and reinforced the idea of repeated addition through fun activities like the ice tray activity, where kidney beans were used to represent groups, and with Dienes blocks, making abstract concepts more concrete. Alongside these interactive tasks, children also worked on their Shin Edu book, which encouraged logical thinking and problem-solving.
These activities not only made learning multiplication enjoyable but also enhanced logical reasoning, curiosity, and confidence in applying mathematical concepts.

Dancing with Pride: Embodying Unity, Identity, and 21st-Century Citizenship

This July and August, our Grade 1 and 2 students presented “Dancing with Pride”—a patriotic mashup that transcended movement to become a heartfelt celebration of national pride and collective identity. Dance here was not only an art form but also a tool to nurture 21st-century skills such as collaboration, creativity, cultural awareness, and emotional expression.

Here’s how this integration unfolded in the classroom:

Exploring Fundamental Movements: Symbolism in Motion – Students used gestures like salutes, stretches, and rhythmic group sequences to symbolize unity, peace, and respect. Movement became metaphor: standing tall as pride, joined hands as togetherness, and synchronized steps as collective strength.

Confidence and Self-Expression – Through expressive choreography, learners were encouraged to perform boldly, cultivating stage presence and self-assurance—skills vital for navigating the interconnected world of the 21st century.

Storytelling Through Dance – Every step, pose, and salute carried narrative weight, enabling students to embody values of patriotism, harmony, and resilience. Storylines of “unity in diversity” were brought alive through formations and transitions.

Body Awareness and Discipline – Students practiced precision, balance, and rhythm, developing physical literacy alongside discipline—core elements that align with holistic education.

Connection to Global Goals (SDGs) – While grounded in Indian culture, the performance tied into SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by promoting respect, empathy, and collective identity. The act of dancing together reflected the idea of inclusive societies and peaceful coexistence.

Post–15 August Evolution: Diwali Dance – After Independence Day, the energy evolved into a new choreography set to a Diwali song, highlighting cultural celebration and community spirit. This festive transition embodied SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) by reinforcing the importance of cultural heritage, shared festivities, and the power of tradition in building cohesive societies.

Drama

Hello to Myself

WESTERN DANCE
“Dancing with Pride” – A Tribute in Motion
This July and August, our Grade 1 and 2 students danced to a stirring patriotic mashup. But this routine is about more than just movement — it's a celebration of national pride and collective identity.

Through this expressive dance, students are learning to:
- Honor Their Country – Understand the value of unity, peace, and pride
- Build Confidence – Express themselves boldly through meaningful movement
- Show Respect – Appreciate their roots and the strength of togetherness
- Develop Body Awareness – Move with precision and discipline while enjoying the rhythm

Every step, pose, and salute is a heartfelt tribute to the spirit of unity and pride.

DRAMA

This month, a series of fun and engaging activities were conducted to create a space for self-expression. The activities included a "Walk Freeze" game, "Simon Says" with animal movements, "Animal Style Walking," and a group activity combining different animal walks.
The "Walk Freeze" game helped participants warm up while practicing quick reflexes, as they froze in different poses when instructed. "Simon Says" was given a creative twist by incorporating animal movements like hopping like a frog or waddling like a penguin, which challenged participants to listen closely and react quickly. In "Animal Style Walking," participants explored how different animals move, such as bear crawling and kangaroo hopping, encouraging creativity and body awareness.
The final group activity, "Combined Animal Walks," required teams to combine two or more animal movements, fostering teamwork and creative thinking. The session concluded with a cool-down and reflection, where participants shared their favourite activities and relaxed after the physical exertion.
Overall, the activities were well-received, encouraging participants to think creatively, move their bodies in new ways, and collaborate with others. The games successfully promoted both fun and learning through movement

In December, Grade 1 students embarked on a captivating journey into the wonders of 'Water' and 'Air'. Students explored water sources like rivers, lakes, and rain, uncovering its uses in daily life and simple ways to conserve it. They also discovered air as a vital mixture of gases, crucial for breathing and burning.
To deepen their understanding, students conducted a fascinating experiment:
Two candles were lit; one was covered with a glass, and the other left open. As they watched the covered candle extinguish, they were asked, “Why did the candle go out?” This revealed the importance of air for combustion, sparking curiosity and a greater appreciation for conserving these essential resources.
