MATHEMATICSThis month the students continued with their learning of 'Subtraction' using the vertical method. They were introduced to word problems by story telling. Later on, they solved word problems. Students were assessed for Mental Math through an 'Oral Quiz.' Students played snakes and ladders in group of two's which helped them to practice their addition and subtraction skills. They also learnt about multiplication through pictures to understand the concept of 'Multiplication' as repeated addition. They used the class resources to learn this concept. The common properties of multiplication were discussed, where the product remains the same irrespective of the numbers changing their order. 'Repeated Addition' concept was taught to memorize multiplication facts and to form multiplication equation using the method. EVSThe month of September started with the commencement of students’ learning journey on the topic-"Food". The concept was initiated by intriguing their knowledge of how do they survive. The students were introduced with importance of food and where do we get food from- Plants and Animals. They were briefed about different types of food like- Energy giving food, protective food, and muscle-building food. Students learned about the Balanced diet and its importance. Taking the topic forward, the Educator explained the difference between "Healthy and Junk food" which they enjoyed by drawing their favorite food by sorting it in a different columns of Healthy and Junk food. The closure of theme "FOOD" was closed by having the "Tiffin Party" where students brought cut fruits in their tiffin and learned about the do's and dont's as a part of "Table Manners". The students enjoyed learning about the different types of keys on the keyboard. They had fun learning the names of their fingers for typing (pinky finger,ring finger,middle finger, index finger, Thumb) using the keyboard and also practiced typing using the TUX Typing Software. They attempted a Quiz on Quizizz.com for Revision. They also enjoyed the oral quiz and performed really well in the same. ENGLISHThis month holds special significance for both students and teachers as it included the celebration of Teacher's Day on September 5th, which commemorates the birthday of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, India's second President. During this time, students created beautiful cards to express their gratitude and affection towards their teachers. Literature-- Students focussed on completing Unit-5, titled 'I like…', with an emphasis on enhancing their reading, comprehension, and writing skills. The introduction to this chapter involved a 'Guided Writing' activity where students were asked to illustrate their favourite season and write few sentences about it. To improve their pronunciation and diction, group and loud reading sessions were encouraged. Additionally, students worked on expanding their vocabulary through 'Amazing words' exercise in their notebooks. At the end of the chapter, an interactive exercise was conducted where both students and teachers collaborated to find the correct answers. Furthermore, handwriting practice was integrated into the learning process, and 'Spell Well' sessions were conducted to enrich the young learners' vocabulary. Grammar-- The concept of 'Antonyms' was introduced to the children through an engaging online game. They were given one minute to think about the pairs of antonyms related to their daily activities, demonstrating their comprehension of the subject. The children also worked on Dolch word lists 1 and 2 in their notebooks. The topic-'Gender' was introduced through video demonstration and word wall games which was followed by a task in their notebooks. Blends- ai, ay a-e was introduced through a sorting activity in the notebook. The children were also made acquainted with 'Adjectives' or 'Describing Words' using real-life examples and were able to showcase their understanding through a 'Describing Myself' activity. To reinforce the concepts taught, textbook exercises and notebook tasks were completed. An interactive 'Show & Tell' activity centered on the topic of "Health Benefits of My Favourite Food" was conducted, and the children enthusiastically participated. Judo: Ushiro Ukemi (Backward fall), Mae Ukemi (Forward fall) Non Locomotor Skills: Stability or body management skills like stretching, twisting, galloping, one leg balance, plank, pushing, pulling, ending with lead up activities like stone paper scissors game with hula-hoops,Throwing and catching smiley balls and Obstacle races. Striking Skills: Eye hand co-ordination game (Catching the ball with both hands), Body Co-ordination Game (Follow through of plastic bat with forward position) , Action to reaction Game (Ball hitting with Bat), ending with some competitive lead up games like dog and the bone, relay races, ice and water and in and out game. Manipulation skills: Plastic ball handling, basketball throwing, football dribbling, kicking, and juggling, hockey dribbling, and balloon catching WESTERN DANCEIn their Western Dance lessons, the students learnt: 1. The beginning steps of Bhangra Dance: Shoulder movement, legs taps, leg raise, side shuffle taps 2. Full body strengthening warm-up routine to keep one injury free and strong 3. Choreography was made keeping the essence of full movement intact and add the contemporary elements to make the art from intresting. DANCE FORM: Bhangra SONG: Rangla Punjab by Sarbjeet Cheema In their Western Dance lessons, the students learnt: 1. The 5 essential beginning steps for a Classical Jazz Dance: Jazz and Blade hands, Point/ Flex feet, Kick Ball Change, Pivot turn 2. Full body strengthening Warm up routine to keep one more injury free and strong. 3. Body Isolations 4. Students are still discovering how to reveal more confidence and self-value by learning Dance techniques. DANCE FORM: JAZZ SONG: 'BUTTER' by BTS DRAMAIn the theatre/drama class students get to know about different Body, mind, voice exercise and gaming activity, which was important for introductory form of theatre/Drama for them. Activity 1: Act of Uncle Tom & Pee- Ka-Boo poetic performance In these activity students perform the act of uncle Tom in which they involved in action through participation learning. Here in this activity they perform various aspect of body gesture and voice modulation; and similar kind of thing they did with Pee-Ka-Boo act where they get to know about big and small. Activity 2: Knee, Chest, Thumb, Thumb act and Animal postures In these activities, students easily understand the action and presentation of an animal like elephant, alligator, bird, worm, tiger and wolf. They could easily understand the voice projection and body gesture of different animals. Activity 3: Theatre Walk and Circle games of theatre Students get to know about reverse counting and jumping on one leg, one-two-three-four-Quack game, name changing and name calling games. They learnt about theatrical walk in the given space. Instrument used: Guitar, Keyboard ARTIn their Visual Art lessons, students learnt: Gr I & II Students made drawings on Indian Festivals like Janamashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi and Gandhi jayanti in which they learnt how to draw the pots , flute, little Ganesha, and a poster on Gandhi Jayanti. Students were made aware of SDG 2: Zero Hunger. They drew Warli Art where they used different shapes to create images related to household work like cooking, grinding, etc. Composition: Warli Art Art Technique: Free hand, colour mixing, colouring, outlining Art tools: Pencil, crayons, scale, oil pastels, pencil colours Learning Outcome: Development of observatory and motor skills, colour blending and fine line drawing. SDG: 2 – Zero Hunger LIFE SKILLSThis module focuses on empowering students to gain a sense of autonomy when it comes to their body. Through storytelling and repetition, the concept is showcased through examples in relatable ways. Students were given an introduction to Body, Consent, Boundaries and Respect in an age appropriate manner. Being a boss means that you are the one who helps make decisions and helps others do things. Just like how you sometimes decide which toy to play with or what game to play, a boss helps decide what needs to be done. They also make sure everyone is safe and happy while doing their tasks. Remember, being a boss is about being a good person and taking care of others. CLASS ASSEMBLY- 1D- JANAMASHTAMI“Happiness is a state of mind, that has nothing to do with the external world.” -Lord Krishna In a radiant burst of colour and cultural fervour, Suncitizens came together to celebrate Janmashtami, the birth of Lord Krishna, with a spectacular assembly conducted by Grade I D. The assembly commenced with a mesmerizing performance of a divine dance. The vibrant costumes and the lively choreography left everyone spellbound. An entertaining quiz was conducted, testing the students' knowledge about Janmashtami and the life of Lord Krishna. The quiz not only challenged their understanding of the festival but also added an element of excitement to the assembly. The participants and the audience thoroughly enjoyed this interactive session. The Principal, Ms. Guneet Ohri graced the occasion with her esteemed presence. She highlighted the importance of friendship and selflessness in one's life. In a delightful turn of events, she engaged in an interactive session with the students, encouraging them to ask questions and share their thoughts. CLASS ASSEMBLY- 1E - INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY"One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world” – Malala Yousafzai On September 8th, 2023, Grade I E presented a general assembly in the school gymnasium to commemorate 'International Literacy Day.' The assembly commenced with an inspiring quote, followed by the latest news updates. To convey the significance of this occasion more effectively, the students presented a short skit. The students also conducted an engaging quiz session to recap the topic, keeping everyone captivated. The young participants impressed everyone with their presentation skills, and they received words of encouragement and appreciation from our Class Representative, Ms. Mansi Bhatnagar. The assembly concluded with the melodious renditions of the School Anthem and the National Anthem. SHRAMDAAN ACTIVITY“Cleanliness is next to Godliness.” Under the theme of ‘Swachhata Pakhwada’ let’s continue to lead the way in fostering a cleaner, greener and more sustainable India. ‘Shramdaan’ is a way of helping our community and contributing to help and change the environment around us for better. In order to inculcate this value, the students of Grade I and II were encouraged to clean their classrooms. Our little Suncitizens left no stone unturned and cleaned all possible corners and edges of windows and cupboards. They thoroughly enjoyed the activity and showcased their commitment for better India HINDI DIWAS“हिन्दी हमारे राष्ट्र की अभिव्यक्ति का सरलतम स्रोत है" - सुमित्रानंदन पंत - कुछ ऐसे ही भाव को आत्मसात करते हुए हमारी मातृभाषा ‘हिन्दी’ को १४ सितंबर १९४९ को मान्यता देकर गौरवमयी पद पर आसीन किया गया व ‘हिन्दी दिवस मनाया जाने लगा। ‘हिन्दी दिवस’ के इसी महत्वपूर्ण दिन के उपलक्ष्य में सनसिटी विद्यालय द्वारा कक्षा एक व दो के विद्यार्थियों के लिए ‘वार्षिक विषय– ‘समउत्थानम शक्ति, सतत विकास लक्ष्य-२ शून्य भूखमरी तथा मासिक विषय-भोजन’ से एकीकृत करते हुए कुछ गतिविधियों का आयोजन किया गया जिसमें विद्यालय के शत प्रतिशत विद्यार्थियों ने सहर्ष भाग लिया। इस अवसर पर जहाँ एक ओर कक्षा एक के विद्यार्थियों ने फलों व शाक -सब्जियों से संबंधित स्वरचित कविताओं की रंग-बिरंगी सहायक सामग्री द्वारा मधुर प्रस्तुति दी वहीं दूसरी ओर कक्षा दो के छात्रों ने हर्षौल्लास के साथ ‘शून्य भुखमरी’ के लक्ष्य को केन्द्रीकृत करते हुए स्वरचित कहानियों का शानदार प्रस्तुतिकरण किया। विभिन्न गतिविधियों में भाग लेकर छात्रों के भाषिक ज्ञान में वृद्धि तो हुई ही, साथ ही साथ उन्होंने हिन्दी भाषा की सुंदरता व महत्व से परिचित होते हुए हिन्दी के प्रति अपने प्रेम को प्रकट भी किया। FIELD TRIPA school outing was organized for the students in conjunction with the monthly theme -'Food'. Incorporating outdoor excursions and interactive exercises is an effective method to captivate young minds and nurture their curiosity about vital subjects. The children explored 'Gurwara Farms,' where they encountered various crops such as grains, millets, fruits and vegetables, simultaneously gaining insights into the significance of food. Additionally, they enjoyed participating in the game 'Passing The Parcel.' Before departing from the farms, the students indulged in a delightful lunch that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
